Care Info

The color is waterproof and safe for steaming and hand washing — just no dry cleaning — store the gown in the provided box.

Cleaning

Drycleaning uses harsh chemicals that strip things like paint. So instead, I suggest hand washing.

If you purchase a gown from me, Canvas Bridal, one free cleaning is included with your order. Just cover the shipping to and from my shop.

If you would rather not hassle with shipping your dress, you can follow the instructions on my blog to wash your gown at home.

Steaming

YES!!! DO THIS!!! It’s good for the coloring!
I recommend hanging your dress with the train down for a few days first; this will help straighten out some of the wrinkles from shipping. Then, if any remain, use a steamer or take your gown to a professional.

A bit of steam is all most gowns need to smooth it out and freshen up the coloring. If you are staying in a hotel before your wedding, or if your venue has a getting-ready space, ask them if they have a steamer you can use.

Here are some technique tips

  • Use distilled water only in the steamer.

  • Don’t rub the fabric with the steamer; keep it a half inch off and angled slightly down.

  • Applying a little tension to the fabric helps a lot with stubborn wrinkles.

  • Slow and steady is the trick.

  • If your dress has a horsehair hem or very stubborn crease, a steaming mitten to put on your hand behind the fabric acts like a mini ironing board and can make a huge difference. I use one all the time.

Storage and Travel

Every gown order includes a travel bag and an archival storage box with tissue.

I recommend keeping even the shipping box, as it is made to fix your archival box perfectly and will come in handy if you choose to ship the dress back to me for cleaning.

ONLY use the travel bag for travel. This bag is not safe for long-term storage of your dress. That is why I provide an Archival Box free of cost.

The tissue paper in the Archival Box is also acid-free and safe for your gown's long-term storage. Keep in a dry area and out of direct sun. Periodically check on the dress to ensure it is safe. Do not place other items in with your dress

No Plastic? YEP! That is correct, I try to minimize use of plastic and keep this business as eco-friendly as possible. It is actually best to keep the dress out of plastic because It needs to breathe. Clothing kept in air-tight storage can get mildew.
